Here are the basics for your Basic Economy trip

You can download the United app and start your check-in process before you get to the airport. If you're not checking a bag, you may need to finish checking in at the airport so we can verify that you don't have a carry-on.

You can bring one personal item on board, like a backpack or purse, but full-sized carry-on bags must be checked.1

We'll automatically assign you a seat when you get to the airport. If you're traveling with a child under 12, we have new tools that make it easier for them to sit next to a family member for free.2

Flight changes and refunds aren't allowed for Basic Economy tickets. Basic Economy tickets may be eligible for partial credit if canceled before departure.3

Priority boarding isn't available.4

MileagePlus® members will earn award miles that can be used for future trips.5

With standard Economy, customers traveling together can choose seats together if open seats are available. Changing your flight: Fares are nonrefundable except as permitted by our 24-hour flexible booking policy. After 24 hours, Basic Economy tickets may be eligible for travel credit when canceled, less a Basic Economy cancellation charge starting at $99 for a roundtrip itinerary. Same-day standby is permitted. Priority boarding: Premier members, companions traveling on the same reservation and primary cardmembers of a qualifying MileagePlus credit card will still receive their priority boarding privileges. Other Basic Economy customers may be in the last boarding group. MileagePlus member benefits and earnings: MileagePlus members will earn Premier qualifying points but will not be eligible to accrue Premier qualifying flights. They will still earn award miles based on the fare and their MileagePlus status, lifetime miles and toward the four-flights minimum for Premier status.
