Banned items

Ensuring the safety of all travelling with us is our priority. Hazardous items and substances pose a serious threat to everyone onboard. Make sure your cabin or checked-in bags do not have any of the items mentioned below.

  • Personal Items: Lighters, scissors (metal with pointed tips), realistic replica of toy weapons.  
  • Sharp Objects: Box cutters, ice axes, ice picks, metal objects with sharp edges, razor-type blades not in cartridge (excluding safety razors), sword.  
  • Sporting Goods: Baseball bats, bows & arrows, cricket bats, golf clubs, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks, pool cues, ski pools, and spear guns. 
  • Guns and Firearms: Ammunition, BB guns, compressed air guns, firearms, parts of guns and firearms, pellet guns, realistic replicas of firearms, and starter pistols. 
  • Tools: Axes and hatchets, cattle prods, crowbars, hammers, drills (including, cordless portable power drills), saws (including, cordless portable power saws), screwdrivers (except those in eyeglass repair kits), tools (including, but not limited to wrenches and pliers).  
  • Martial Arts and Self Defence items: Batons, blackjacks, brass knuckles, Kubotan, mace or pepper spray, nunchakus, stun guns or shocking devices, throwing stars, and other martial arts or self-defence items.
  • Drone or Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). 
  • e-cigarettes: An electronic device that heats a substance, with or without nicotine and flavors, to create an aerosol for inhalation and includes all forms of Electronic Nicotine Delivery System (ENDS), Heat Not Burn. Products, e-hookah and similar devices, by whatever name called and whatever shape, size or form they may be.
  • Personal Mobility Aids (PMAs) that are designed to transport individuals with difficulties walking. For example, motorised wheelchairs and mobility scooters are not controlled by Land Transportation Authority (LTA) in Singapore. 
  • Explosive Materials: Flare guns, gun lighters and gun powder, blasting caps, dynamite, fireworks, flares (in any form), hand grenades, plastic explosives, and realistic replicas of explosives. 
  • Compressed Gases: Deeply refrigerated, flammable, non-flammable, and poisonous gases such as butane, oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and Aqua Lung cylinders.  
  • Flammable Items: Aerosol (any except for personal care or toiletries in limited quantities), fuels (including cooking fuels and any flammable liquid fuel), petrol, gas torches, lighter fluid, strike anywhere matches, turpentine, paint thinner, and realistic replicas of incendiaries. 
  • Oxidising material: Such as bleaching powder and peroxides. 
  • Poisonous and infectious substances: Insecticides, weed killers, and live virus materials.

 
Radioactive materials

  • Corrosives: Such as acids, alkalis, mercury, wet cell batteries (except those in wheelchairs), oven or drain cleaners. 
  • Other dangerous articles: Such as magnetised, offensive, or irritating materials. Briefcases and attaché cases with installed alarm devices.





Restricted articles

Certain items can be carried only with advance approval, according to policies of Air India, interlining carriers and local regulations.



MacBook Pro laptops

Apple Inc. issued an advisory to revoke the carriage of a certain number of old-generation 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops. The sale of restricted stock was stated as primarily sold between Sep 2015 and Feb 2017. This was done due to a possible overheating issue of the battery while in use. However, not all 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops sold within the period are restricted for carriage. Travellers can get their laptops verified using the serial number on the Apple support website. Batteries

  • You can carry batteries for an electronic device in your hand baggage.
  • Spare batteries (including ion cells or batteries) for portable electronic devices must be carried as checked-in luggage only.
  • For lithium metal batteries, the lithium content must not be more than 2 grams.
  • The Watt-hour rating must be a maximum of 100 Wh for lithium-ion batteries.
  • Devices kept as a power source can be considered spare batteries and must be individually protected to prevent short circuits. A passenger can travel with a maximum of 20 spare batteries.
